A Doorway You Can Still Walk Through

How the Split Platform Works

Most platform lifts stow as a single solid panel that blocks the door opening and the window beside it. The Clearway platform is split down the middle: at the press of a button each half folds vertically against its own tower, so the stowed lift leaves an open pathway between the two towers. Family members can climb in and out of the side door without deploying the lift, and the driver’s line of sight through the door glass stays unobstructed.

To board, the platform unfolds and lowers to the ground. Dual power cylinders carry the platform smoothly between ground and floor level, the inboard rollstop folds down to bridge onto the van floor, and the lift folds itself away again once you are inside.

The Clearway installs in the side or rear door of full-size vans such as the Ford Transit, Ram ProMaster, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Chevrolet Express and Ford E-Series. The installation kit, door opening and interior floor height all depend on the van, so ask our mobility team which configuration fits your vehicle.

Controls, Options and Safety

Built for Independent Use

Push-Button Operation. A handheld pendant control runs the complete cycle: unfold, lower to the ground, raise to floor level and fold away. Handrails on both towers give the rider something secure to hold throughout the ride.

Automatic Rollstops. The outboard rollstop at the end of the platform folds down as a ramp on the ground and rises automatically before the platform leaves the ground; the inboard rollstop bridges to the vehicle floor at the top. Together with the non-skid platform surface they keep the chair securely on the platform.

Manual Backup. If the vehicle’s electrical system fails, a manual hand pump raises the platform and a manual release valve lowers it, so you are never stranded on the lift.

Options for Independence. An internal swing-door operator or sliding-door operator opens and closes the van door for you, and a power remote control lets you run the door and the lift from your wheelchair outside the van.

FMVSS 403/404. Platform lifts installed in private-use vans sold in the U.S. must meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards 403 and 404 for platform lift systems and their installation; the Clearway is supplied with Ricon’s FMVSS private-use operator documentation and is installed by trained technicians with a vehicle-specific Ricon kit.
